KOKODA COURAGE TREK FAQ'S

Travel:

 

Q: How many days should I allow in total for the trip?

A: 10 Days / 9 nights – Including travel time

 

Q: How many days & NIGHTS IS IT ON THE TRACK? 

A: 8 days / 7 nights on the Track

 

 

ON THE TRACK:

 

Q: How LONG IS THE TREK?

A: 96km of Beautiful tropical rainforest, Although it is steep & arduous terrain.

 

Q: ON AVERAGE, HOW MANY KILOMETRES DO WE HIKE PER DAY?

A: Hiking distance ranges from 12-19 km per day

 

Q: WHAT TYPE OF TERRAIN IS THE TREK?

A: The Track consists of mud, rocks, tree roots (and sometimes flat !!)

 

Q: do we carry our own packs?

A: You can carry your own pack (approx. 14kg) or hire a porter to carry it for you (recommended)

 

 

PREPARATION:

 

Q: WHAT TYPE OF TRAINING IS REQUIRED BEFORE THE TREK?

A: Extensive training is required. Several months (depending on your fitness level) of hiking up and down hills carrying your pack. You get a training program, training sessions & a Camp, all included, so we can help you Be the most prepared you can Be to take on the trek

 

Q: HOW MUCH TRAINING SHOULD I BE AIMING FOR TO BE READY?

A: Your aim will Be completing 2-3 hour hikes/ 2-3 times a week on steep hills/stairs, carrying the pack weight you’ll have on the Track

 

Q: IF I DON'T DO AS MUCH OF THE TRAINING AS RECOMMENDED, WOULD I STILL BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE TRACK?

A: A solid preparation will make the experience a whole lot more enjoyable and increase your chances of finishing

 

Q: WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO DO, TO BE PHYSICALLY PREPARED?

A: ALL TREKKERS NEED A MEDICAL CLEARANCE FROM YOUR DOCTOR

 

 

 

SAFETY:

Q: WHAT SAFETY MEASURES DO YOU ENSURE FOR THE TREK?

A: 

- a Highly qualified medic or doctor on every trek

- Satellite phone

- Villages have UHF radios

- Extensive first aid kit and defibrillator

- Experienced local porters with good knowledge of the Track and evacuation locations

- Pre-trip medical screening​

- Physical Preparation - Through our Kokoda Fit program, Training Sessions & Preparation Camp

- Helicopter evacuation to Port MoresBy in an emergency
