KOKODA INSPIRATION

Inspirational stories from the Track

One of the inspiring aspects of the Kokoda Track is the determination and resilience shown by the soldiers who fought there. They faced incredibly difficult conditions, including extreme heat, steep inclines, and dense jungle foliage. Despite these challenges, they pushed on and ultimately prevailed.

This determination and resilience can also be an inspiration for people with disabilities. Like the soldiers on the Kokoda Track, people with disabilities often face significant obstacles in their lives. These may include physical barriers, societal discrimination, and negative attitudes from others.

However, just like the soldiers on the Kokoda Track, people with disabilities can choose to persevere in the face of these challenges. They can draw on their own inner strength and the support of others to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.

Additionally, the Kokoda Track has become a symbol of the importance of teamwork and camaraderie. Soldiers on the track worked together to support each other and overcome obstacles. This same spirit of collaboration can also be an inspiration for people with disabilities, who may need to rely on the help of others at times.

In the videos below, we feature two incredible individuals who have successfully completed the Kokoda Track with us.

What is your inspiration……..

THE BRAIN THAT CHANGED

This is the inspirational story of Andrew Short who lives with cerebral palsy, and his trainer Lee (Kokoda Courage Trek Leader) are applying the concept of neuroplasticity - that the brain can change - to overcome his disability. Andrew completed the Track with us and now has his sights set on walking the Great Wall of China.

MAX ON A MISSION

This trip with my good mate Mick and his son Max would have to be one of my all time favourite's.  We both carried our boys, 6 years old at the time, for the whole trek to raise awareness and money for Cerebral Palsy.  Max has Cerebral Palsy and can't walk but we are hoping to return to the track when he turns 16 and Mick's goal is to have him walk alongside him.  This video still brings a tear to me eye, it was an absolute pleasure of mine and the whole Kokoda Courage trek team to walk alongside Max and Mick.  The sheer joy on little Max's face throughout was so heart warming.  This is why I love Kokoda and I can't wait to be back there.  When you make the trek, the historical significance is overwhelming but also incredibly rewarding.
